Huichol yarn painting from Nayarit area of Mexico. 7.9 x 7.9" (20 x 20 cm), yarn on thin wood backing. For long-term preservation this piece should be framed. Back has a description of imagery. Imagery: The shaman will consume the peyote to receive and give meaning to the messages of the gods. Before consuming the peyote, the shaman needs to ask permission of the gods, so a ritual is needed.

Imagery: Sacred gourd is used by shaman to present offerings (peyote: visionary sacrament) to the gods in order to be blessed and used in rituals. Muvieri stick helps contact the gods, deer are gatekeeper to the spirit world.

Imagery: The deer will guide the peyote seeking pilgrims during their travel. The Kieri, or Tree of Wind, is a sacred incarnation of the god of wind. The hummingbird helps carry messages to the gods and spirits.
