DESCRIPTION
"Spice" was a product line sold as a legal herb-based alternative to cannabis and was perhaps the first line to popularize synthetic cannabinoids deposited on plant material as alternatives to natural cannabis. The published ingredient lists contained only herbs and no cannabinoid constituents. When it first appeared in approximately 2006, the listed ingredients were suspiciously unlikely to produce its reported effects. Numerous organizations eventually tested the material and three chemicals were identified in various Spice products including JWH-018, HU-210, and a homologue of CP-47,497. Since then, numerous other vendors and products have mimicked this model selling herbal blends with a frequently shifting set of added synthetic cannabinoids. The products have become increasingly dangerous as of 2015.
