ISLAM
The religious faith of Muslims, based on the words and religious system founded by the prophet Muhammad and taught by the Qurán, the basic principle of which is absolute submission to a unique and personal god, Allah. About 1/5 of the population of the world is Muslim.
The word Islam derives from salam which means primarily "peace" but in a secondary sense "surrender". Its full connotation, therefore, is the peace that comes from surrendering one's life to God.
