Amanita trial #1:
My previous experience with drugs includes: mj daily, MDMA on repeated occasions, salvia on repeated occasions, coke on occasion, lsd twice, pharms – adderol, Ritalin, hydrocodone and oxycodone, Xanax, valium, lunesta, zolpidem, and probably some others that are slipping my mind, entheogens: yerba mate, kava, kratom, wild dagga, wild lettuce, and others…
Other physical considerations: I am a 26yr old female, weighing approx. 100lbs, with a fast metabolism, and in good health. I had consumed alcohol, nicotine, and mj the day prior. The day of, I had only smoked a small bowl of mj in the morning.
I chose a dose of 7g based on my body weight (no scientific factoring here, just the realization that my little body will probably need less drug to get effect, though, counter-intuitively, I seem to have a very high tolerance for mind-altering substances) and based on reports that I had read around the web. I wanted to feel the effects without getting blasted into Wonderland.
I wanted to feel the effects without getting blasted into Wonderland.
I had previously tried a tea of 2.2g with minimal effect: some slight sedation was all.
Setting: at home, in pajamas. Sister is sitting and boyfriend currently present. Been dreary, raining on and off all day.
Set: excited about what’s to come. Slightly nervous, but not much. Birthday was 2 days ago, been bummed because it didn’t work out the way I wanted. The goal of this trip was simply to expand the mind and judge the effects of the dose, with later trips in mind. To explore whatever this entheogen has to show me.
I take vitamins daily: calcium, B-complex, ginseng, ginko, green tea with hoodia, acidophilus, fish oil. I took them about half an hour before consuming the mushroom.
I consumed 7.4g (weighed) of dried amanita caps sautéed in garlic and consumed with shrimp stir fry at 12:30pm this afternoon.
T+30m: completely done eating
T+1h: feeling threshold effects, something is there, but couldn’t say what. Starting to feel unsteady. Went downstairs to get comfortable. We put in my favorite childhood movie, The Last Unicorn. My sitter smoked a bowl of salvia, and I sat for her. I was beginning to get twitchy at this time, but still functional. Boyfriend left around this time.
T+1h30? Went out for cigarette, only had half, then smoked a bowl. Started getting some visual disturbance – no visuals, just this jumpy sight. The best description I could come up with: it’s like when you’re so tired you can barely keep your eyes open and you get these images that flash in front of your eyes. Like your brain can’t process what you see fast enough. Skippy.
Twitches increased frequency. I told my sitter: it’s weird – I feel the twitch like I normally do, but can then feel the muscle relax afterward. Also, I was getting warm – thermogenic effect – and also salivating a bit more than usual.
I was getting warm – thermogenic effect – and also salivating a bit more than usual.
The salivating wound up counteracting the dry mouth pretty well. Felt much better after smoking, and went back downstairs to watch the rest of The Last Unicorn. Passed out instead. Don’t remember any dreams at all.
While the movie was on, and I was watching (sorta), I had the sense of something on the horizon – there was something just beyond my grasp. So I closed my eyes and started getting dizzy, so quickly opened them again. It didn’t seem so bad, though, so I closed them again and let the dizziness pass. I almost had CEVs. It felt like they were just about to break through… and then I must have fallen asleep trying to accomplish this because my next conscious thought was: the movie is done?
T+5:10: woke up (4:40pm, not sure how long I was out). I feel inebriated, that’s for sure. Like a good buzz from booze. But I thought I would get farther. Belly grumbles, lotsa gas. Just ate half a box of tic tics. Wtf? Things taste weird, but texture in my mouth is fantastic. Sitter left.
T+5h45: considering a smoke and more bud. Effects seem to have hit plateau.
T+6h30m: ate some random crap. Tasted great. Farted a couple times, felt great. Gonna have the rest of my cigarette.
T+7h17: definitely coming down. Smoked cigarette and a little bowl and then took a shower. Feeling more and more baseline. I feel kinda zappy. Like I’m vibrating kinda fast. Time is weird. Seems kinda irrelevant. I’m still in a weird head space, though the body load is leaving fast. Feeling kinda tired again.
T+8h7m: just smoked some mids with the family. Still feel a little off, but mostly baseline.
It was enjoyable, I suppose. I was able to talk (which is more than I can say for other substances). Things were pretty amusing in general during the come-up. Laughed more than I would have a Robot Chicken (animated tv show on adult swim). Didn’t get too nauseated, which was nice. I’m pleased to know that my body can process this entheogen without too much complaint. I have a much harder time processing kratom. I got gassy, but not until towards the end. I think eating towards the end helps, it helps ground you and bring you back. I think sautéing it and putting it in the stir fry was brilliant. I would do that again without hesitation. The taste of the sautéed mushroom is actually pretty good. Mushroomy, meaty – earthy. Like portabellas, a bit. Though, it does stick to the teeth. Maybe adding something crunchy at the end of the meal would be a good idea.
Time and the concept of time, though, were very confusing – to the point of being irrelevant. I understood what time was and the time of day it was, but the passing of time seemed pointless. All times were now, and now was all that mattered.
I will be trying this again with an increased dose, though exactly what that might be at the moment, I’m not sure. I might go with 10g, or just double the dose. Seeing as I barely got over threshold with 7g, I may go ahead and double it.
*Please note that while I do compare this inebriation to that of alcohol, it is only because there is nothing else I have consumed that would have similar (hence, comparable) effect. It is DIFFERENT than being drunk on alcohol, but it is the closest comparison I can find.
• Disorientation (similar to that of an alcohol buzz) and discoordination
• Increased frequency of need to urinate
• Anesthetic effect (skin was quite numb, jaw felt less tense)
• Eyesight would skip – similar to when you’re really tired and trying to keep your eyes open but images just keep flashing by
• Slight increase in salivation
• Slight rise in body temp
• Heart rate seemed fast once or twice
• Sedation (relaxing into the couch felt wonderful)
• Confusion (kept forgetting where I put things; time was not making sense)
