1 cup oral Tea (tea)
  18 leaves buccal Coleus (fresh)
  1 tablet oral Cannabis (extract)
BODY WEIGHT: 140 lb
Initial Experiment With Coleus

I recently began growing coleus as a houseplant, its beauty adds alot to any space. Obviously I had heard the rumors of the Mazatec use of coleus and had been intrigued.

So today as I was watering a rather large and unruly specimen a branch fell and I took it to be an offering. After lunch and a cup of tea I washed 18 leaves and brought them to my room where I prepared a three part ceremony with lavendar incense, cannabis and the coleus. I offered the incense to my altar, blessed and thanked the plants and took a 30 mg cannabis pill and rolled the coleus as tightly as I could and put it in my mouth for a good long chew. I also put on the album Spontaneous Illumination by Entheogenic.

Then I laid down and basically played with the Coleus in my mouth for 20 minutes. I sucked alot of the moisture out of the leaves and only a small wad was left when I was done. During this time I found my mind to be extremely full of thoughts, restless. I am a steady meditator and have a certain beginners type control over my mind but today stilling my thoughts was especially difficult, perhaps it was the aw pu-erh tea . . . but the Coleus like most things has a flavor and that flavor is subtly indicative of personality. So I found this flavor influencing the nature of my thoughts.

As I've said I found my mind wandering often but the beauty of the music combined with the coleus and it did show me visions. The first time it happened was in a particularly beautiful moment of music when my mind was indeed arrested and as my thoughts vanished in the presence of the music there behind my own eyelids was sonically sculpted a most beautiful living jeweled palace not unlike what one may see in a serene moment of an ayahuasca journey. This was a very subtle phenomenon that only arose because my mind gave it the space to.

I say, this is not a drug. It seems to me that one must give it space and imagination; to be treated like a waking lucid dream. Overall I'll say its a beautiful plant and in one form or another I'll continue to get to know it. Though it doesn't exactly pack a punch at the get go I could imagine it being a powerful spiritual ally in the long haul.
