Is there any legal way to obtain GHB in California?
Q: I see that GHB is a schedule II substance in California, but I'm not sure what that means. Is there any legal way to obtain GHB in CA?

A: Schedule II is the highest level of control possible which still allows a substance to be prescribed by a doctor. It is, however, likely to be quite difficult to find a physician willing to write a prescription for GHB. There has been a lot of political and media attention around GHB during the past couple of years and many doctors are wary both of individuals interested in GHB and in the attention that prescribing a schedule II substance could bring.

Additionally, as of Feb 2000, GHB is now schedule I federally in the United States. An exception has been made for GHB being used under an FDA approved New Drug Application for the treatment of narcolepsy or other sleep disorders. What this means, however, is that most doctors (even in California) no longer have the discretion to prescribe GHB to their patients.
