Is it safe or effective to snort kava?
Q: I had a sudden inspiration to snort some powder kava extract that i had. I was wondering if that was a safe or even effective way of using it?

A: We haven't heard of anyone snorting Kava, and it seems quite unlikely that it would be worthwhile. Even using a very concentrated extract, you'd most likely need to snort a large amount of the material to get a dose. Doing it repeatedly could definitely lead to serious sinus problems and damage to the nasal passages. The primary reason people snort things is because it requires less material, thereby making it cheaper than oral use. Kava isn't particularly expensive, so reducing the dosage isn't important. Because there's no tradition of snorting kava, there's no data that we're aware of as to whether or not this is safe. We certainly wouldn't recommend it.
