Does ecstasy reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills?
Q: First off, i would like to say that your webpage has helped me to use E safely and also to inform friends about how to use it right. your page is my primary source of information on E. anyways, i have been using E for awhile now and my gf would like to try it. now she is on birth control and i was wondering if E effects the ability of the birth control to work right or if it would cause a bad reaction.

A: While there is no published research on this topic that we are aware of, there is strong anecdotal evidence that mdma (ecstasy) has no effect of the action of birth control pills. Many thousands of women on birth control use ecstasy and after talking to hundreds, we have heard of no reports of a reduction in effectiveness of the birth control pill's mechanisms. I don't think this is an area for concern.

One thing to keep in mind is that ecstasy causes vomiting in some people...if the birth control pill was taken just prior to ecstasy and vomiting occurred, the birth control pill might not have time to be absorbed in the stomach...so to be cautious about this, it might be a good idea to make sure the birth control pill isn't taken within 2 hours before the ingestion of the ecstasy.
