Can LSD cause miscarrages?
Q: I recently had a miscarriage while I was on acid. I didn't know I was pregnant but is there a chance that the reason I miscarried was because of the 'cid ??

A: LSD is a derivative of ergot alkaloids. Ergot alkaloids (and LSD) are known to induce contractions and therefore possibly miscarrage. However, it's also important to know that many factors can contribute to a miscarrage, including health, level of exercise, percent body fat, etc. You should be careful if you are planning on conceiving or have a chance of conceiving. LSD may or may not cause birth defects (I personally don't think it would), however the fetus is most sensitive to damaging effects within the first month of its development, when you are quite likely not to know that you are pregnant. Please be careful, and take appropriate precautions.
