Review of literature on biochemical aspects of LSD and mescaline (56 references). . The experimental data available do not permit any satisfactory explanation of the biochemical events responsible for drug-induced experimental psychoses. Various theories have been put forward but not enough compounds have been studied to make the theories convincing. More substances will have to be investigated before a connection can be established between chemical structure and pharmacological action.
