Zolpidem is a short-acting sedative-hypnotic prescribed for the short-term treatment of insomnia. It interacts with the GABA-BZ receptor complex and shares some of the pharmacological properties of the benzodiazepines. As with most benzodiazepines, zolpidem can cause anterograde amnesia (forgetting the period during the effects).
