Erowid Announcement #53
March 18, 2005
Friends of Erowid,

Ten Years Ago...
...after choosing the name "Erowid" in February 1995, the domain name "" was first registered in March 1995.

In the last announcement we mentioned that in February 1995 we chose the name "Erowid". We received a couple of emails asking for more details about how the name was chosen. If you're interested, the answer to that question was published in Erowid Extracts #2 and can be read online at:

Remember, the Mindstates VI Technology and Transcendence conference is coming up soon in San Francisco, Memorial Day weekend May 27-29. Buy your tickets soon to get the best price and reserve your space. We'll be there running an Erowid table...come join us!

We welcome submissions, suggestions, criticisms, or corrections at

  1. eScottology - Announcing The Erowid Review

This installment of Scott O. Moore's monthly column announces a new project called The Erowid Review: A publication focusing on reviews of books and other media related to psychoactives and other topics of interest to Erowid readers. If you're interested in participating in this, check out Scotto's column for details.

  2. Overview of the Experience Report Reviewing Process

This overview describes some of the history of the Experience Vaults and where we're at as we work to complete the beta test of the new triaging system. We're working towards improving the throughput so that, in the future, most reports would be read and reviewed within a month of submission. But that is still a long way off. :)

  3. Meperidine Vault

Some links about the opioid Meperidine, including Law Vault. If you have photos of, experiences with, or suggestions for interesting documents or books about meperidine, please let us know.

  4. Zopiclone Withdrawal and Dependence Notes
A pharmaceutical sleep-aid newly approved by the FDA for sale in the U.S. has been used in Europe for over 15 years. The new brand "Lunesta" is being marketed as a non-addictive sleep aid, but some case reports of addiction and tolerance exist in the medical literature.

  5. Zopiclone (Imovane) Image Vault

Images of the short-active sedative zopiclone (Imovane).

  6. Venlafaxine (Effexor) Interactions

A chart of some known or possible interactions of venlafaxine with other psychoactives. This summary was contributed by a volunteer. Summarizing this type of data is complex and we are experimenting with some new ways of presenting it. Please let us know what you think.

  7. Law Vault Additions

    Transcript of UK Mushroom Hearing

    New Zealand Analogue Drug Law

    Portugal Drug Law & Policy

Conducts laboratory testing of street Ecstasy tablets (NOTE: co-pay is now $30).

Between Feb 17 and Mar 18, results were posted for 11 new tablets.

The Ecstasy Testing Program is quickly running out of funds. We need $1500 per month to cover the costs of testing 15 pills per month with a $30 co-pay. Please read the testimonial by 2004's largest supporter of the project, DJ Adam Wiggins: Why I Support the Pill Testing Program
