I am in no way, shape, or form experienced with drugs. Just putting this bit of info first. I have never even smoked pot.

I am incredibly fascinated by the human mind. For me, the closest I have ever been to a psychedelic trip is lucid dreaming which I am able to do often. For a year or so, I have been looking to try legal substances that may or may not let me explore the deepest reaches of my brain.

I decided to give it a go because Salvia is illegal where I live. A friend and I discussed trying it together so I went off to my local garden store and bought two plants for a dollar each. I got home and planted it in my backyard when I snapped one of the stems in half by accident. Turns out they are fragile.

I didn't want to waste the part that broke off so I thought, 'What the hell?' and decided to make a quid out of it. I picked ten leaves off the broken stem, each about three inches long and an inch wide and washed them off, rolled them up and par took.

0:00 (2:00 p.m.) The first quid was made of four leaves. The taste wasn't as bad as what some people say, but it was bitter. I listened to music while I chewed.

0:10 (2:10 p.m.) I notice that the taste is mostly gone. I spit out the quid and place the next one of two in my mouth and started to chew.

0:15 (2:15 p.m.) My mom comes home and I am forced to spit out before I planned. I help her with the groceries and then put the next quid of four leaves in my mouth.

0:30 (2:30 p.m.) I spit out the last quid. Nothing really yet. I feel more relaxed but I can't tell if this is real or placebo

, and I'm leaning more towards placebo. I begin to doubt if I will even feel anything from only ten leaves. I have read that at least 50 leaves are what causes psychoactive effects but I have read reports from people having effects on only 6 leaves.

0:45 (2:45 p.m.) I start to feel like I want to lay down. I start to make a music playlist on my computer to transfer over to my mp3 player. I wish I did this much earlier. As I make the list, I get a strange sensation of moving backwards. The best I can describe it is being in a parked car and watching another parked car beside you start to slowly move forward. Even though you don't FEEL like you are moving, you get the sensation of moving backwards. I start to get excited. I look at my ceiling for a while. There is a hind of faint pattern on it of red blobs but when I try to focus on them, they go away. I do not see them anywhere else.

0:50 (2:50 p.m.) I finish making the playlist and go to lie down on my bed. I notice light coming in through my window. For some reason, I stopped what I was doing and just stared at it for a few seconds, even though there where no psychoactive visuals, I found the patch of light interesting. I lay on my bed, blare my mp3 player, and cover my eyes with my blanket.

1:00 (3:00 p.m.) In the ten minutes of laying under my covers I saw very mild, faint CEVs. I saw circles radiating out from specific points and swirls. I was hoping they would move with the music, but they were totally independent from it. I would like to point out that I never felt intoxicated at any point. My thought process was in no way affected by this.

1:05 (3:05 p.m.) Just as soon as it was starting, it stopped. after a few minutes, I got up and looked around. Nothing. A little disappointed, I turned off my mp3 player and went out to the living room. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary. This is where I decided to go about the rest of my day.

All in all, I still don't know how much of this was truly affected by the coleus and how much was placebo, but I do feel like there is something to this plant. The 'visuals' where so faint, I can't help wonder if I actually saw them or imagined them (which I guess would be the same thing). The feeling of motion was the most interesting aspect of it as I was totally caught of guard.

I am very interested in trying this again as I wonder if, like I have heard with Salvia, it takes a few tries to experience any real effects. Next time I think I will try making a tea out of about 60-80 leaves, but that may require a few more plants...
