I am writing this because I believe melatonin can have psychedelic effects, and have not found any other discussion about this online. Taking melatonin while sober does nothing but make me feel drowsy and content, its intended effects. I started eating 3mg before bed to help me get to sleep a few months back, during a period where I was unable to smoke marijuana as a sleep aid. After a month or so of this, I was able to smoke before bed again, but kept taking melatonin since I believe it gives me a far more restful sleep than without. I have tripped on psilocybin mushrooms several times since then, and every time I have taken melatonin within 48 hours or so of taking mushrooms, it has almost immediately intensified the colorful 'static' I see with closed eyes (and mildly with them open, probably mild HPPD) into discernible psychedelic patterning. If I am stoned at the time, or get stoned right after, I find the high is intensified and pushed in a hallucinogenic direction. I have only ever had one flashback, which I suspect is related to my acid use, and it happened while I was high and after I'd taken my nightly 3mg.

I have never used 2C-D, but I have heard it described as 'psychedelic tofu', which isn't a bad descriptor of my melatonin experiences. Maybe it had to do with the structural similarity between tryptamines?

On a similar note, I have found it is somewhat habit-forming and that its sex-drive diminishing effects are real.
