The author mentions 'Woodrose' -- it is impossible to tell whether this refers to Hawaiian Baby Woodrose, Hawaiian Woodrose, or an entirely different species. Hawaiian Baby Woodrose and Hawaiian Woodrose are commonly confused, but Hawaiian Woodrose is not used as a psychoactive plant. The timing of the hospitalization one month after ingestion also does not provide enough information to make conclusive statements about this case.

I am an EMT and today I had the experience of the most interesting case I had ever seen in my 5 years as an EMT. I transported in my ambulance a young lady who took 4 to 8 woodrose seeds about a month ago and ended up having multiple seizures, being on life support, intubated twice (meaning machines were breathing for her) during her month-long stay in the ICU. As a result of the intubation, she ended up having a blown lung otherwise known as a pneumothorax and now has brain damage as a result of hypoxia -- lack of oxygen to the brain -- which can happen when people seize if they seize for a long period of time. Upon reading her physicians report I concluded that this girl was so close to death it wasn't funny. This young lady who was stabilised after a month spent an hour in my ambulance while being sent to another hospital for further testing. Did I mention the extensive and painful tests she endured and did I mention that she is no longer able to speak due to a condition called encephalitis in which her brain swelled to the point where her speech centers were damaged rendering her speechless? She may never speak again how sad.

All of this is a direct result of taking these woodrose seeds. Erowid Note: This is an unverifiable claim, given the information in this report. Before you put something in your body think first. I am writing this because I feel it is my responsibility to inform others of the risks they may be taking. I am not advocating the use or boycott of any product. I am simply asking people to do their homework before putting substances in their bodies. Even natural herbs can have adverse and fatal effects. I am writing this with my patients privacy and rights in mind I have done my best to advocate and respect the privacy of this young woman.
