Amanita was roasted brown during last year’s season (Dec 2017). Smells of fried fish; sweet, salmon-like, charred aroma.

T-1h Prepared self and Amanita in a ritual involving herbal incense and holy waters; prayers to Brigid, Airmed, and the Dagda.
T = 0 (3:00pm):
Playing music with my friend Greg. Mixed electronic with live instruments. Very christmas-y sounding, elf-music. Drank tea with ~10.5g dried, crisp, browned Amanita, steeped for ~10m. Really didn’t taste that bad.
Feeling sick on a scale of 3/10, but it is seems pretty psychosomatic. Mentally expecting nausea, as experienced with other teas. Any minor distraction causes nausea to go away.
Not really feeling anything. We take a break from making music. I eat 8.5g more of Amanita, whole caps, less crispy, not charred/browned. Greg eats ~8g. We each smoke 5-6 hits of cannabis from large bowled pipe, and Greg serves a glass of white wine and I drink it.
Have another glass of wine. Smoke 5-6 more hits of cannabis.
Start winding down the music. Feel hot and sweaty. Harder to focus.
I lay on a couch. Visual and mental focus is becoming more diffuse/blurred, “I need to lie down…” (I look like this --> O.O) Greg transitions to painting, and plays an album called “DNA Feelings” over his speakers. Increased sweatiness. Feel simultaneously hot and cold from the sweat. Clammy skin. Have visions of wide-open, snowy, dark field, path leading into forest. In the forest I sense the Wild-Man archetype. Scrawled in my notes: “Old, Wild Spirit”. Imagining scene with antlered-stag eating an amanita. Voices of ancestors chanting. Body is numb, blurring effect on body, vision, and mental focus.

Still very hot and sweaty. Very strong blurring effects. Energy/vibrations in body, synced with music. Feels like my whole body is shaking, but visual observation shows it isn’t physically shaking. Sensation of vibrations in the forehead (3rd eye/pineal). Some controllable yet involuntary twitching sensation in legs, which periodically pulses. Not painful, just weird. Low-alpha brain frequency 6-8hz (self-report of internal vibrational sense, strobing of visual field). Greg begins painting a tiger, and says so as he’s doing it. I can’t see it because I have my eyes closed, and he is standing over it. We have a silly conversation about “Schrodinger's Tiger”, because I can’t directly observe it. I begin to imagine what it might look like. The visions become scenes of jungle. I am perceptive of the plight of the tigers being impacted by industrial society and mass deforestation. I imagine scanning over large parts of jungle and gesturing the palms of my hands over them to induce regenerative, protective light over the canopy of the trees. Covering many, many square miles of jungle with my imagination, flying very fast.
Still hot and sweaty, but it is decreasing. My doggo needs to pee. I get up and find myself able to walk straight. We go for a short walk. My vision and perception are still altered, but I can navigate and orient myself. Nice walk, refreshing.
Greg and I make food. Delicious. Still altered. 3 hits of cannabis.
Sobering up. I have another glass of wine as I am fully oriented again. Mind/vision focused again. Body cooling down, sweat almost gone.
Mild headache, 3.5/10 on pain. Take 1 tablet ibuprofen.
Done. Getting ready to go to sleep.
T+20h (next day)
I read Fly-Agaric Motifs in the Cú Chulaind Myth Cycle
and the cited article: Speckled Snake, Brother of Birch: Amanita Muscaria Motifs in Celtic Legends. I am surprised and intrigued by the similarity of visions to mythological figure Derg Corra, the “Red Peaked One”, lord of the animals, and wild places (p.17 from article by Laurie and White). Feeling very moved by this myth and visions.
