“Regulation of synthetic cannabinoids”.
Lancet. 2009 Nov 09;374(9701):1595.
Abstract
Greta McLachlan Aug 22, p 6001 comments on the recommendation of the UK’s Advisory Council for the Misuse of Drugs that synthetic cannabinoids should be reclassifi ed because they are without a medical use. We disagree that synthetic cannabinoids “do not have a recognised medical use”. The British National Formulary2 lists nabilone a synthetic analogue of tetrahydrocannabinol as a prescription-only medicine available for “nausea and vomiting caused by cytotoxic chemotherapy, unresponsive to other anti-emetics”. Other clinical uses of cannabis and its derivatives are described in the British Medical Association book Therapeutic Uses of Cannabis.3
