Abstract
The selective blocking action of D-lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD-25) on inhibitory dopamine receptors is described. Dopamine-induced postsynaptic responses of both excitatory and inhibitory types were recorded from identified neurones of Aplysia ganglion. A 30 sec exposure to 0.1 EM LSD significantly depressed the inhibitory responses to 1 mM dopamine while a 60 sec exposure to 10 mcM LSD did not alter the excitatory response to 0.1 mM dopamine. Dose-response curves obtained from cells with inhibitory receptors indicate that the mode of LSD interaction was non-competitive.
