“Color Changes Induced by Certain Indole Alkaloids in the Fiddler Crab, UCA”.
Comp. Biochem. Physiol.. 1975 Jun 1;51C:59-62.
Abstract
Lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) evoked distal retinal pigment light adaptation end erythrophoric pigment concentration in the fiddler crab. The erythrophoric responses to LSD were not dependent on the amount of light striking the rhabdoms in the eyes. Isolysergic acid amide and psilocin evoked erythrophoric pigment concentration in intact fiddler, crabs but not in eyestalkless crabs nor in vitro in isolated legs. LSD evoked such pigment concentration in intact crabs only. Of the three alkaloids used, LSD was the most potent while peilocin was the least potent in evoking the observed effects on the erythrophores.
