“Chromosome Examinations After Medically Administered Lysergic Acid Diethylamide and Dextroamphetamine”.
Dis Nerv Syst. 1974 Sep.;35(9):399-407.
Abstract
The literature contains numerous reports of chromosome examinations in persons who have used lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) illicitly, but only a handful of articles describing such examinations in persons to whom LSD of known purity was administered in known doses, i.e., under medical supervision. According to detailed reviews of the literature up to 1970 (Dishotsky et al., 1971; Moorhead et al., 1971), a higher percentage of chromosomal abnormalities was found among illicit drug users than among persons who disclaimed such usage. These results were obtained by most investigators, although a few failed to find an increase in breaks among illicit drug users.
