J. Chromat.. 1973;78(1):237-240.
Abstract
A simplified procedure for the identification of drugs from the illicit street market by thin-layer chromatography. An improved TLC method of identification of drugs of abuse . is described. The TLC plates were of Silica Gel G activated by heating to 110°. A solvent system comprising CHCl3/ether/MeOH/25% . NH3 (75:25:5:1) was used with one of the following spray reagents, iodine/MeOH, H2S04/EtOH, iodoplatinate reagent, p-dimethyl-amino benzaldehyde, diphenylcarbazone -mercuric chloride, H2SO4/HCHO and cobalt nitrate/MeOH with isopropylamine/MeOH. Compounds examined are shown below of which psilocybin (Indocybin) was provided by Sandoz and phencyclidine (Sernylan) by Parke-Davis. Characteristic colours given by these compounds with appropriate spray reagents and the Of values are tabulated. This method proved of great value in screening illicit samples DRUG: Amphetamine Methylamphetamine Phenmotrazine Ephedrine Methyl phenidate Caffeine Cocaine Procahe lorphine Codeine Thebaine Noscapine Papaverinc Heroin 6-Monoacetylmorphine LSD Lysergamide Psilocybin Psilocin I DMT DET Mescaline STP DOET Phencyclidine Strychnine Diphenhydramine Allobarbital Barbital Cyclobarbital Phenobarbital
