“Influence of 5-HT antagonists on the ganglionic stimulant action of 5-HT and DMPP”.

Abstract
"Various agents known to block the effects of 5-HT on the nervous (M), and muscular (D) receptors of the guinea pig ileum, were studied on the inferior mesenteric ganglion of the cat. Spontaneous postganglionic nerve activity was recorded while stimulating the ganglion by close intraarterial injection of 5-HT or DMPP. 5-HT from 2.5 to 15 mcg., and DMPP from 0.5 to 4 mcg., produced increased activity in the postganglionic nerve fibers. Previous i.a. injections of cocaine, morphine and BOL 148 from 40 to 200 mcg., produced selective blockage against 5-HT. Atropine and LSD, from 200 to 400 mcg. blocked 5-HT and DMPP equally. Dibenzyline did not cause appreciable blockade up to 1 mg. i.a. or 5 mg/kg i.v.. In contrast to the above agents, hexamethonium blocked only DMPP. Althouth the results indicate the existence of specific 5- HT receptor sites in the sympathetic ganglia, a similarity of these receptors to the M-receptors of the guinea pig ileum (GADDUM) could not be established."
