“The way of working with "model" psychoses”.
Advanc. psychosom. Med.. 1960;1:206.
Abstract
"Model" psychosis was elicited by administering LSD to gain insight into the relation between personality and the specific forms of behavior. . Changes of activity during LSD psychosis are examined by a battery of tests: the two factor personality inventory test, the picture recognition and the worries test. The expressive movement, the tapping, the autokinetic effect and Bourdon's test as well as the conditioning were also researched. A study was made whether the model psychosis is to be regarded as an entity or as a reactive syndrome in accordance with the morphological constitutional type. . The author works in a group of 8 men. One of the main topics of the team work is the concept of constitution, the question of constitution and neurosis and also of constitution and psychosomatics. It was found that different persons showed different forms of psychosis after LSD. There is a close relation between the bodily structure and the behavior in illness and health. . Objective tests before, during and after the LSD impact were used (i.e. EEG, handwriting pressure, body swing test) besides the above-mentioned tests. . Several side problems are touched upon as co-ordination between neurophysiological and psychical data, possibility of predicting individual differences, and dependence whether the tested person will suffer from a model psychosis or mere neurovegetative disturbances. . Comment: The author mentions the "level aspiration test" of Bourdon. During the test known as Bourdon's test the patient is asked to strike out certain recurring letters or numbers in a standard page, the result and the time required being noted.
