“The analysis of drug-induced tremor in mice.”.
Brit.J.Pharmacol.. 1959;14:350.
Abstract
A method of recording tremor in mice was developed using a gramophone pick-up and a cathode ray oscillograph. Permanent records were made on 35 mm. film from which it was possible to determine qualitative differences in the tremor induced by various drugs. The severity of tremor was estimated quantitatively by a tremor index. . Tremorine: caused regular and continuous tremor. The frequency was 14-18 cps. The tremor index was 2.06-3.90. Hyoscine stopped the tremor within 5 minutes. . Harmine: elicited a fine generalized tremor. The frequency was 14-16 cps. The tremor index was 2.20- 2.38. . Harmaline: induced a similar pattern but of slightly greater intensity and duration. The frequency was 14-16 cps. The tremor index was 2.1-2.5. . LSD: elicited a fine intermittent tremor interspersed with normal bodily movements. The frequency was 22- 25 cps. The tremor index was 1.97-2.3. . Aminotriphenylpropanol: elicited a coarse, severe and continuous tremor associated with profound restlessness, struggling ataxia, backward walking and circling movements. The frequency was 14-16 cps. The tremor index was 2.25-3.4. (See 378)
