Abstract
Chlorpromazine and reserpine exerted a tranquilizing effect on the Siamese fighting fish (Betta spelndens), the effect being related to the body temperature of the fish. Chlorpromazine caused a loss of color in the intact fish but not on the isolated tail. Reserpine had no effect on color. . LSD increased the color of the guppy fish (Lebistes reticulatus) in both the intact fish and the isolated tail. The effects of LSD were antagonized by chlorpromazine pretreatment but not by reserpine pretreatment. There were definite sex differences in behavioral responses of the fish to LSD. . Apomorphine induced emesis in the bullhead catfish (Ameurius melsa). This effect was antagonized by low doses of chlorpromazine and potentiated by high doses. Chlorpromazine also inhibited emesis induced by reserpine. . As physostigmine produced effects similar to those of LSD (except melanophore expansion) in the guppy fish, it is thought that the effects of LSD are due to parasympathomimetic actions.
