“Experimental study of psychosis”.
IInd International Congress for Psychiatry, Congress Report. 1959;IV:173.
Abstract
Oral administration of 50 mcg. LSD or 500,00 mcg. mescaline produces similar mental alterations in normal adult human beings. These include disorganization of thinking, changes of affect, perceptual disturbances and feelings of unreality. Full orientation, consciousness and recall are maintained. The similarity between experimentally-induced mental and biochemical manifestations and acute functional psychoses has led to the speculation that errors in the adrenalin system may be a causal factor in psychoses. The experimental chemical method is a new approach offering hope for the investigation of psychoses.
