“Radioprotective action of 5-hydroxytryptamine”.
Nature. 1958;182:1506.
Abstract
5-Hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) and tryptamine offered rats protection against whole-body irradiation. LSD, BOL 148 and 1-benzyl-2, 5 dimethylserotonin exerted no protective effect but inhibited the protective effect of 5-HT and tryptamine. Antihistamines inhibited the protective effect of histamine but not that of 5-HT. Atropine and dibenzyline, which each block one type of tryptamine receptor, did not influence the protective effect of 5-HT.
