“Pharmacological actions from intracerebral drug injections”.
Psychotropic drugs. 1957;p313.
Abstract
Intracerebral injection of LSD in conscious dogs and cats profoundly activated the autonomic nervous system, producing salivation, retching, emesis, micturition, mydriasis with reactive pupils and also induced a fear complex. . In the cats sweating and hypersensitivity to light, sound and touch were also noted. "Sham rage" did not occur, but the animals would attack if continuously irritated. . In the dogs ataxia was also observed. . In cats reserpine produced relaxation of the nictitating membrane, miosis, narrowing of the palpebral fissure, avoidance of light, diarrhea, anorexia and tranquilization. Equivalent doses of trimethoxybenzoic acid, reserpic acid or pethylreserpate did not produce such effects, indicating that these metabolites of reserpine are not involved in the action of reserpine.
