In dogs, cats, rabbits, rats and mice 5-hydroxytryptophan elicited somatic, autonomic and behavioral effects resembling those elicited by LSD. The effects were associated with a rise in the 5-hydroxytryptane levels in the blood, central nervous system and peripheral tissues. . In dogs, the action of 5-hydroxytyrptophan was intensified by LSD. In mice the excitement produced by 5- hydroxytryptophan and LSD was additive.
