“The action of 5-hydroxytryptamine and some of its antagonists on the umbilical vessels of the human placenta”.
Brit. J. Pharmacol.. 1957;12:410.
Abstract
5-hydroxytryptamine: exerted a vasoconstrictor action about ten times stronger than that of epinephrine. Both 5-hydroxytryptamine and epinephrine were antagonized by chlorpormazine and yohimbine. . LSD and tryptamine which exerted a vasoconstrictor action in larger doses, demonstrated specific and strong anti-5-hydroxytryptamine action. . Mescaline did not definitely modify the action of 5-hydroxytryptamine but caused vasoconstriction in large doses. . Phenbenzamine (antihistamine) in histamine-blocking doses abolished the effect of 5-hydroxytryptamine in half the preparations studied. . Trimetaphan (ganglion-blocking agent) in large doses blocked the action of 5-hydroxytryptamine added subsequently.
