Erowid.org About
Erowid Monthly
For 25 years, Erowid has been available as a public resource about psychoactive plants and chemicals. Though founded in late 1995, it wasn't until 1996 that we began submitting Erowid.org to search engines, and traffic grew. By the end of 1996 we had approximately 1,000 page views per day.

We're in the final week of Erowid's annual September Support-a-thon, when we seek a new high for the number of donors in a month. This year our goal is 1,376 donations of $5 or more.

Donations of $10-500 being matched. We still have $23,000 in matching funds available. Please contribute!

In 2021 we've published 19 issues of Microgram from the 1970s. These internal newsletters of the DEA, from when it was the BNDD, contain fascinating historical facts and insights about the new War on Drugs and the availability of psychedelics and other psychoactives.
For years, underground therapists have used vaporized 5-MeO-DMT as a therapeutic agent and adjunct to in-person therapy. This article is DIY instructions for assembling vape pens of varying 5-MeO-DMT concentration for personal use.
A collection of accounts shared with Sasha by his research group, friends, and colleagues, book F spans 1989-1990 and marks the end of the Pharmacology series. Substances covered include TMA-2, MDMA, 5-TOM, AET, and 2C series compounds.
There's been huge progress made on Shulgin & Stolaroff archiving, despite plague-year setbacks. We've completed a first pass of Stolaroff abstracts, we're mostly done with scanning Shulgin documents, and we're ramping up efforts to index the Shulgin scans with metadata such as document type, title, author, & privacy level.

  • "Classic Psychedelic Coadministration with Lithium [...]"
    Pharmacopsychiatry (Jul 2021)
This study, co-authored by Fire & Earth Erowid, analyzed experience reports from three websites (Erowid.org, Shroomery.org, & Reddit.com) that describe classic psychedelics taken with mood stabilizers, and found that co-administration of psychedelics with lithium is associated with seizures.
  • "Confirmed reports of bupropion sold as crack cocaine [...]"
    Clinical Toxicology (Mar 2021)
In a published letter co-authored by Erowid, two samples sold as cocaine (one as "crack" and one "white rock") and tested by Erowid's DrugsData project contained bupropion as the only psychoactive substance. This is the first known confirmed report of bupropion sold as crack cocaine in the "illicit drug supply".

  1. "Intractable Byproduct" in 5-MeO-DMT Samples
An example of a complicated sample tested by our DrugsData project, initially including an unidentified chemical. Collaborating with our volunteer experts, we were able to nail down this curious finding.
  2. Tryptamine Turns Purple with Ehrlich Reagent
In June we published a result for a sample of 1P-LSD that showed an unusual reagent response. It appears that the chemical tryptamine may have been added to cause the field reagent reaction to be consistent with LSD.
  3. Myth Debunking: Adrenochrome
Since the 1970s, Hunter S. Thompson's silly fictional account of adrenochrome in "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" has occupied a peculiar place in subculture drug lore. After being asked about it repeatedly, we published a short Q&A.
From the Vaults
The Hive was an influential forum discussing the chemistry of mind altering compounds. It was active from 1997 to 2004, and later archived on Erowid, a snapshot of the early days of online drug info.
