DOSE:
750 mg oral Pharms - Doxylamine (pill / tablet)
BODY WEIGHT: 150 lb
My experiences with doxylamine (Unisom) started when I was sent to San Jose for work. I get somewhat restless when I travel so I decided to buy this over the counter sleep-aid at the store.

Because I always feel like the dosages in most medications are far too low, I took about 15 pills, each containing 50 mg's of doxylamine. I did this around midnight.

30 minutes in I start feeling strange, I can't identify it as good or bad. It just felt like something was affecting my body, I felt a strong urge to lay down, but more no desire to actually go to sleep.

After roughly 45 minutes I began to feel the full effects, it could best be described as an extremely dirty high. My thoughts felt very vague and unclear, as well as depressing/negative. I remember I was watching a documentary about the French defeat/surrender in Algeria. I found it very interesting while I was sober, and suddenly I considered it stupid and irritating. I switched channels a few times and found all of the channels to be equally irritating. I switched my television off and tried to sleep.

One hour and thirty minutes in I was still lying in bed, still completely awake. But my body felt terrible and my thoughts seemed beyond my control. I was sweating excessively, and breathing quite heavily. I didn't fall asleep for about 4 hours when the effects seemed to reside and I began to feel more comfortable. One strange side effect was that it increased my libido, my thoughts were very sexual after about an hour. However, this was overpowered by how uncomfortable and gross my body felt.

I eventually fell asleep around 4 am. Upon waking up at 7:30 the following morning I experienced a terrible hangover, very similar to the one produced by alcohol.

I believe this substance is widely accepted and carried in stores because of the unpleasant feelings it comes with. Sleep-aids made with more pleasant chemicals are obviously more likely to be abused. This is why Quaaludes were banned, and Ambien is prescription only. I had no desire to try to abuse this drug again.

I still had another 15 pills left in the box, and I used them only at the recommended dosage (100 mg). I felt a mild sense of discomfort but quickly drifted off to sleep. I have used it a few more times since, because it's helpful at recommended doses. But this medication is the sort of thing you only want to take if absolutely necessary.

Regardless of dose, I am hungover when I wake up.
