At the time of this experience I was 14 years old. I had already dabbled in some drugs, most notably cannabis and alcohol. I was in good physical condition; I played soccer and hiked a lot.

This experience began like many others; simply out of boredom, my friend, D, and I, decides to try to do as much caffeine as we could. Most people think caffeine is a very mild drug, but let me tell you; in larger quantities it is quite a handful. It was a Sunday night and I was sleeping over at D’s house, foolishly not realizing we had school tomorrow. We looked around his medicine cabinet and found a bottle full of generic caffeine pills, each containing 200mg. We didn’t know anything about dosage

, but D did 3 and me, being the braver one, decide to do 5. I swallowed 4 and decided to snort one, thinking it would make the others hit me faster. I was right. As soon as I snorted it, I felt a very intense rush and an amazing wave of energy. I remained in this state, until the other 4 pills kicked in. It was incredible. I suddenly had the urge to run, jump, do anything. My pupils were completely dilated and it felt like my head was about to fly off, also accompanied by moderately intense nausea.

His mom walked in to tell us to go to sleep. D didn’t feel as energetic so he somehow managed to drift off to sleep, while I lay in bed, the caffeine laughing at my futile efforts to fall asleep.

Here is where it got interesting. As I was lying in bed I began to drift in an out of my consciousness. It is hard to explain, as if I was dreaming while I was awake. I was having very vivid dreams, as if I was really there, and these were highly lucid; it could control them. When I opened my eyes, I would see lingering flashing lights in my peripheral vision. I finally slept fitfully through the night, waking up many times.

Overall, it was a weird experience. It had a sort of sharp dreamy quality to it, with a lot of nervous energy. I probably would not do it again, but only because of the nausea.
