At the age of 14 my life started to take a turn for the worse. I had become socially awkward, depressed, extremely paranoid and had developed a rare mental disorder, schizophrenia. I was about to go over the edge. My life was what has been described as a permanent bad LSD trip.

Than one of my stoner friends asked if I wanted to try a joint. He said it would calm me down and relieve some stress. I had been educated on cannabis before and wasn't in the state of mind thinking oh this is a horrible thing. So I tried it. After my first experience I was amazed. It was like a breath of fresh air. I was relieved of my illness for a period of time. I was happy and enjoying life for the first time in what seemed an eternity. I started using it casually. A joint or a few bong bowl packs a week with friends. An episode of mania or auditory hallucinations became a rarity.

Though I will never truly escape the fact I have this illness cannabis helps me live my life and enjoy living it at the same time. Some say that cannabis can spark a mental illness so I am guessing that this effect may vary from person to person with a disorder. But I just wanted to share my story.
