I’m a 21-year-old student currently pursuing a Masters in genetics. I would consider myself relatively experienced with psychoactive substances. I’ve been smoking marijuana regularly for about 4 years and have tried mushrooms about a dozen times. I came home from college on a Friday evening after buying myself 1g of Salvia 40x and decided to give it try in my room after having it recommended to me by a close friend.

Although he warned me about Salvia (several times), nothing could have prepared me for the experience I was about to have.
So after spending a few weeks researching salvia and its effects of seemingly infinite terror it seems to bestow upon people I mentally built myself up for the experience to come. Since I had no trip sitter, I cleared my room of all dangerous objects as I’ve heard people have been known to get up and wander around during their trips and I didn’t want to take any chances.

After meditating for about 20 minutes I took a hit of marijuana first to get me relaxed and in the mood. About 10 minutes after smoking the marijuana, I turned off the lights in my room and loaded up 100mg of salvia into the bowl and took the hit. I held it in for about 25 seconds and finally exhaled. I put my bong down on the floor and sat on my bed waiting for the effects to kick in.

Almost immediately, I felt an unimaginable gravitational force pushing down on my legs and arms – almost incapacitating me completely. My room completely began to warp around me, turning it essentially into a sphere. As I looked around in amazement, a vicious looking Boxer dog sitting on my desk confronted me. A sense of pure horror came about me as I looked eye to eye with this dog. With each passing second, my fear doubled. As I became more and more terrified, I suddenly decided to embrace whatever was going to happen to me (a wise post from a user online on a forum). As soon as my mind frame changed, I felt a connection to this dog and could feel him as an extension of myself. He meant me no harm. He spoke to me (telepathically). “Don’t worry X, I’m here to protect you” and turned to face my bedroom door. I felt completely at ease and lay down on my bed and closed my eyes.

As soon as my eyelids closed, I was blasted through space at the speed of light (or even faster, who knows) passing by stars and planets, which seemed nothing in comparison to the sheer energy I felt I was radiating. Suddenly, I began to slow down and approached this being emitting more light than the entire universe combined, or so it felt. I could not see anything besides the brightest light imaginable. The connection I felt with the ‘dog’ was also the same connection I felt with this being, it was as if I was it. I came to a standstill and found myself floating in front of this beautiful thing. It spoke to me (telepathically). “Do not worry about death, everything is ok”, it said. I listened intently to the next few words this being was going to say to me. At the time, nothing was more important than listening to what it had to say – nothing else mattered. However, as I focused all of my attention I could almost hear it speak but the sound of his voice sounded almost muffled and the harder I tried to listen the harder it was to hear. Suddenly, I found myself being shot back the way I came at the speed of light once again gazing ever so intently as I passed the same stars and planets (weird how I remembered their exact positions, even backwards). Eventually I landed back on earth and back into my own body.

I shot up from my bed and felt this surge of infinite ecstasy within my brain. I could feel every single neuron within my brain firing up, as hard and fast as they could – seriously, the complexity of neurons in the brain is so mind-boggling I still have trouble trying to comprehend what I felt. This feeling lasted about 10 seconds and was honestly, the best (physical) sensation I have ever experienced in my entire life. When it stopped, I opened my eyes and was back in my room again, confused and mentally exhausted. I could feel the effects of the salvia wearing off; besides a few distortions in the walls everything was back to normal. I turned on the lights and sat down on my bed, trying to comprehend what just happened to me. This experience was so real to me (even more so than reality itself).

This was my most profound and life changing experience to date. As I said, nothing could have prepared me for the journey this wonderful plant took me on. I since then have taken salvia about 2 or 3 more times but neither felt as real or life altering as my first experience.

I still to this day believe what the light being had to say to me was the most important thing in the universe. I hope that one day we can meet again and it will bestow some of its eternal wisdom upon me.
