Better than Kava
Erythrina mulungu
Citation:   ethno. "Better than Kava: An Experience with Erythrina mulungu (exp92612)". Erowid.org. May 1, 2019. erowid.org/exp/92612

DOSE:
2 Tbsp oral Erythrina mulungu (tea)
I heard about this new herb called mulungu that's supposed to be something like kava, so I decided to buy online and try it out.

Recipe: Two tablespoons (maybe half an ounce) of Mulungu into 1.25 cups of boiling water. Covered and boiled about two minutes. Smells great, very cinnamon-y Took off heat, still covered, and steeped about three minutes.

Downed the either thing after it cooled down. The taste was nice, very much like tea. Immediate upon drinking I felt a slight relaxation. It graduately got stronger and peaked after maybe 20 minutes, peaking for another 3 hours and tapering off after that.

The effects were similar to valium or kava- basically mellowed out and sedated with some euphoria. About as strong as 10mg of valium. Slight coordination loss, nothing major.

Conclusion: Great stuff, I'll definitely do it again. No hangover effects at all. Because of the pleasant taste, I'd rate it higher than kava. It would certainly make a useful sleep aid and anxiety-reducer, maybe even a decent substitute for alcohol or kava.
