Tramadol use over 3 months.
I have been using Tramadol as an SSRI substitute. It is NOT prescribed or rarely so as such. After extensive personal research I found it works on the receptors but different one than traditional SSRI's. I have been taking, with a legal prescription, 200mg per day. I completely discontinued my SSRI and found that Tramadol was more effective and quite pleasant. I gives me an overall calm and sense of well-being but not anywhere near the level of a high of pure opiates.
The problem was when I couldn't afford the medication one month and quit cold turkey. I became suicidal within in days! I found returning to my SSRI gave me immediate (within 24 hours) relief although not from the psychical symptoms of withdrawal, which included; racing thoughts, pain everywhere, muscle twitches, severe insomnia, and tremendous depression.
If I am going to do Tramadol recreationally I use it sparely (100mg every three to four days doesn't cause the withdrawal experience), using it therapeutically, I would not discontinue abruptly.
