A girlfriend of mine is prescribed Aurorix, 300mg twice a day for depression. It works well for her and has very few side effects. We have both had ecstacy on quite a few occasions prior to this particular evening, generally having one & a half good quality pills each over an evening.

Anyway, we decided to drop a pill each on a warm Saturday night. We had no idea how strong they were as I had been given them three years before and had stored them in the freezer. We dropped a half each and sat around chatting and listening to music while we waited for them to come on.

After about half an hour or so I suggested that we have the other half because I was only experiencing mild effects. My girlfriend commented that she was definitely feeling hers, but she agreed that we have another half. Within the next hour or so I peaked to the full effect, which was to me just an average pill at best. My girlfriend, on the other hand, was very out of it and enjoying it immensely.

We decided we would go out for a walk around town to enjoy the warm evening. I was pleasantly high but my girlfriend kept commenting how smashed she was , in fact the most out of it she had ever been!! This of course pissed me off because I'm only just stoned and wanting more. That's what got me thinking maybe the aurorix had potentiated her pill, hence her being so hammered.

Anyway, after walking for a while she got to the point where she could barely put two words together and just had this stupid grin on her face. I was thinking, ok she is way out of it but seems to be having a good time and she assured me she was... but then we started up a little hill and all of a sudden she said she couldn't walk any further and she had to sit down. She could barely speak so we just sat in the gutter for a while hoping she would come good after a rest. After a while she had recovered enough to walk again with not too much difficulty, but was a little unsteady on her feet and still smashed. We got back home ok and enjoyed the rest of the evening listening to music etc. before eventually going to bed. For most of the next day my girlfriend was still pleasantly high and skipped her aurorix as an internet search confirmed our suspicions regarding the interaction between MDMA and moclobemide.

Conclusion: MDMA releases large amounts Serotonin and to a lesser extent Norepinephrine and Dopamine. Moclobemide inhibits the breakdown of these neurotransmitters - this results in a powerful potentiation of MDMA and is potentially a very dangerous combination. In hindsight, half a fairly mild pill would have been more than enough and extreme care should be taken when combining these two drugs, if at all.
