I've done mephedrone three times and it gets more and more moreish. The last time, I was doing lines for fifteen hours on the trot. I've never been high so long - normally I do MDMA, and around 7am I start gurning and feeling a bit wrong, and want to go to bed. But that just never happens when I'm taking mephedrone.

I've only had the same up-all-day experience once, on crystal meth, the memory of which still makes me feel ill... Generally I'm not an addictive type: I can dabble in as much coke, speed, booze and fags as I like and then leave it alone without a qualm. But not this.

Mephedrone doesn't have meth's comedown of crushing paranoia - in fact I barely had a comedown at all, beyond the physical exhaustion you'd expect after staying awake until 4.30pm.

It doesn't really alter my perceptions or make you feel 'drugged' - I was just happy, alert, slightly excited like everything's fun. And quite disinhibited: for me it has the same effect as MDMA in that it makes it easy to talk honestly. It doesn't quite have MDMA's loved-up vibe, though which is a shame.

To be honest I'm nervous about this stuff. I've no idea of the long term effects, and when I found myself talking about the slight addictive quality with my boyfriend over Sunday lunch, and we admitted we didn't mind the thought of doing a line there and then (we didn't) I thought: that's not good.
