Citation: psychedevil. "Effects Not Blunted: An Experience with Buproprion (XL) & MDMA (Ecstasy) (exp54523)". Erowid.org. Oct 16, 2015. erowid.org/exp/54523
I have been taking 300 mg of Wellbutrin (buproprion) XL daily for about a year now. During this time, I have ingested Ecstasy (MDMA) several times. I typically take a single tablet of Ecstasy and follow it up with another tablet of Ecstasy several hours later. This was the same dose regimen I typically would use when I was not taking antidepressant medication. I have found that the positive effects of MDMA are not blunted or reduced by Wellbutrin. The research literature as well as anecdotal reports have indicated that SSRIs reduce the psychopharmacological effect of MDMA, due to MDMA primarily being a serotonin agonist. However, Wellbutrin is not an SSRI, which may explain why it did not interfere with the potency of my MDMA experience.
