I have social phobia and I've tried several herbs (damiana, calea, catnip, skullcap) and so far the only thing I've found to get rid of my anxiety is alcohol. I seem to be pretty insensitive to herbs.
I've had a kava extract with licorice, 40% grain alcohol, I've had the cut and dried root but it wasn't until today I felt effects from kava. I think powder is the way to go.
I made a shake with ice, an egg, instant coffee, cream, water, cocoa, stevia and 1/4 cup of the kava. Didn't taste great but not too too bad. After about 15-30 minutes, if my memory serves me correct, I felt as if I had about 2.5 glasses of wine. I felt the physical relaxation and mental relaxation but still pretty clear headed from what I can tell.
About an hour later I made another shake with an egg, peanut butter, cocoa, some splenda, water and 1/4 cup of kava powder.
It was kind of hard to drink as it was thick and my stomach was already full. The only thing that didn't feel good was my stomach, not too bad but just slightly uncomfortable, what happens whenever I combine a lot of liquid with anything with calories.
I guess after the 2nd dose the effects were the same but stronger. It took me about an hour to drink it though. I felt very relaxed and like I could definitely be more sociable. Lower inhibitions. No anxiety. A great feeling. I definitely feel buzzed and I love it! I found a great substitute for alcohol, I just need to learn to prepare it so that my stomach doesn't feel all full. I may try capsules although that is a lot of capsules to fill!
