Alright, here's the deal...

I've tried Salvia a few times before. I've smoked the basic Oaxaca-grown 1X leaf in the past, and it was pretty cool. Nothing too extreme (as, say LSD or fungus level), but it was fun nonetheless. There were the general feelings: 1.) Being pulled towards the wall; 2.) Picturing green vines covering your whole being; 3.) Not knowing exactly where the hell I was; etc. Each of those times the feeling was unnerving at first, but with relaxation of the mem(brain), the experience was a fun-ass one to remember. But I digress...

This time however, I was intoxicated. Yes, drunk. As a motherfucker. I had finished off about 3/4's of a fifth of Jameson, (great Irish whiskey for the uninformed) and I had the grand arrogant rush of corn liqour seething throughout my entire body. I had been out partaking in some good old rock and roll (of the punk variety) and I was on a hell-bent adrenaline high. Drunk as hell, left the show, cruised home, and turned up the music. Lit a cigarette, and sat back while Hendrix cut throught the atmosphere. But I wasn't quite on the plateau I wanted to be... So I crept to my box of goodies, and a bag of Mexico's finest sage stared right into my soul...Ha Ha.

So...packed up a bowl of Oaxaca-grown into the old two foot binger (glass bong), whipped out the lighter (the torch kind), and ripped into the bowl. (Let it be known that I switched my musical selection to the Pogues beforehand; I had to keep with the green theme of the evening). No preparation, no sitters, no bullshit. I took a large tear, sat back, and held it in for about 1 minute. Then it began...

Now this is when things got weird. I felt the first wave of nervous tingling rush throughout me; at this point I fell back towards the couch. My vision blurred a bit, and I focused on the wall. I just let my soul go and blend into the traditional Irish rhythms pounding against my head. I closed my eyes and envisioned armies marching towards certain death, yet the soldiers held their heads high and each man carried himself with the pride of a thousand brave souls. (This may sound cheesy, but this is what I saw). The soldiers were green, and they marched in perfect time. I pictured myself as part of that army, and we trodded on towards our fate. I felt empowered, and was determined to keep going. After about 3 minutes of zoning out on this fantasy, I realized I was in my room and that there was no war. I sat up, dazed, and decided to write the testimonial you read before you.

The thing I have realized about Salvia is that I have to forget about the uneasy nervous feeling and meditate a bit. I stare at a candle, recite a mantra, look at the wall, whatever, and then let myself go and drift into the drug. Then and only then will it reward me.

Salvia is also different depending on the drugs one mixes with it. The previous times I have done it, I was smoking grass. And there was a strong feeling of a feminine figure surounding me. A mother goddess, if you will. This time, however, I was whiskey-bent and pictured myself as a soldier. Testosterone took over.

I can't say I learned anything from this (except maybe that I should have been an IRA soldier instead of a lowly college student). But the feeling was pretty damn gnarly. Can't wait to try it again next week.

All in all, this was pretty cool. This experience certainly won't change my life, but it is a good way to pass the time (for 5 minutes) when you have nothing else going on. I think it's time to step up to the 10x solutions; maybe I'll have the religious experience that all these head trippers talk about...
