Being bored, we decided to try what the locals (South Africa) calls 'malpitte' meaning mad-pits, also known as Jimson Weed. In Africa it grows next to the roads in plentyful supply. The seed pods looks like a big ball of spikes, and contains small black seeds.

We took 1000 pits at 18:00 after not eating anything the whole day. We were after fast absorbtion, see. Four hours later and nothing has happened yet (possibly due to the hard pits ?) and my friend left for home, leaving me alone. Soon after, I started feeling queasy and restless, with vivid heat flashes throughout my body.

Another hour and I was overwhelmed by the drug. It came on suddenly, turning my throat cork-dry, and leaving me off balance. I staggered to the kitchen faucet, intend on killing my thirst. What horror, then, when I realised I couldn't drink anything. The pain caused by swallowing brought tears to my eyes ( that's how dry my throat was ), and moments later I would vomit the water up again. The whole night was spent dry-heaving.

These side effects were mild, though, compared to the hallucinations. These were incredibly vivid, and so far removed from LSD hallucinations as can come. It looked like everything was vibrating very quickly, and edges became hazy. I distinctly remember a friend, dead over a year, talking to me before being absorbed into a tree, and the sight of my whole house filled with cobwebs ( My friend also experienced the cobweb effect, for some reason. ) There are whole gaps missing from my memory, thankfully.

In an attempt to avoid the horrible hallucinations, I tried to go to sleep, but whenever I closed my eyes, I got the feeling something was rushing at me, and I jerked them open again.

Somewhere in my mind, I realised that this what it felt to be poisoned. Round about dawn (06:00), the effects started to diminish. I immediately fell down on my bed, trying to sleep.

When I woke up at noon, I had a skull breaking headache, and still couldn't eat anything.

These passed by the next day, but for the rest of the next week, I couldn't focus my eyes properly. Reading was impossible, causing my eyes to water. Considering that I work in a library, this was most frustrating. My friend experienced similiar effects, except he didn't have the focusing problem.

The hallucinogenic effect of Jimson weed is unquestionable, and you can't get more mind-altering than this. Not even a thousand microgram LSD trip made me lose my head like malpitte. But the side effects made this the most profoundly horrible experience of my life. Cheap LSD substitute this is NOT !!!

You need this stuff like you need a brick in the face.
