Trip report title: An unexpected absence of dosage synergy
Participants 55m 52f, both short and thin.
Compounds used for both:
T=0. 60 mg 3-fea
T=3h. 60 mg 3-fea + 5 mg 2C-B-Fly
Various after 2.5 h: Nitrous oxide (8g) x 20, and amyl nitrite (poppers)

Set and setting. My trip partner and I routinely use 3-fea and 5-mapb for relationship maintenance, typically every circa 3 months. Here, we decided to mix up the redose with a bit of 2C-B-Fly, in the hope that there would be synergy between them.

At T=0, we had set up the house with chill lights, heated the bedroom up, and put on a 2+ hour Captain Hook stream. This was about 7 PM.

T=1h. The first rolling effects were coming on, along with an expected wave of temptation to compulsively re-dose. This manifested as internal questions about “Did we take enough? Should we try to add another 60 mg now?” Fortunately, we had already agreed strongly to stick with our original plan, even if we never progressed beyond a ++. Once we had settled into the plateau, the irrational head chatter settled down, and we talked deeply about our relationship and just about everything you can imagine for about 2 hours more in peace.

T=2h. My partner is notoriously shy about admitting her own professional successes, and I had written a short and deeply flattering paragraph to her about how proud I am of who she is - and how successful she is. When rolling, her sort of self-effacing humility is attenuated, and she was able to listen to me with an open heart. A highlight.

T=2.5h. First nitrous oxide balloons were used. For some reason, after this point we really burned through the nitrous balloons that evening, and in hindsight, I suspect it was because the dosage of the 3-fea was comparatively low. The nitrous oxide provided a short term boost to the level of intoxication. It was also true that the modest dose of 60mg 3-fea was already starting to flag by 3 hours.

T=3h. Here, we took the pre-agreed redose. This new mixture was helpfully going to be a synergistic experience, where we would get much higher than just using a simple redose of 3-fea. (This was in part informed by our prior mixing of a full dose of 5-mapb with 10 mg 2c-b-fly, which took us to “crazy town”).

T=4h. The redose, instead, was barely different than 3-fea alone. There were no psychedelic edges to the rolling. The only way it differed was (weirdly) that fellatio was less comfortable for both of us than using only 3-fea. Even poppers use, which normally turbo charges closed eye visuals, did not bring out the fly’s expected visions.

T=6h. By this time, the empathogen had worn down, leaving a dragging awake-alertness purely from the fly.

T=8-10h. We were both curled up together and nodding into and out of very shallow sleep. Thus, the only other contribution from the 2c-b-fly was insomnia.

T=11h. We eventually went to full sleep around 6 am.

T=11-24h. The next day, we were sleepy and lethargic, but otherwise unharmed.

It is important to recall that the dose response curve of 2c-b-fly is very steep, and I suspect we were sub-threshold. Furthermore, perhaps fly does not interact well with empathogens. This would be a sharp contrast to mixing LSD and 3-fea (or mdma), which are strongly synergistic, and can greatly reduce the amount of either that we need to fly high.
