Not for recreational use instead as a self-medication for chronic fatigue which is what I used Tramadol for.
Tramadol is too stimulating. And not in a good way, causing anxiety. Enter Tapentadol which is chemically similar to Tramadol but works much more like an opioid whilst retaining some of the stimulant/mood lifting properties of Tramadol but is a lot smoothier so hardly any anxiety. Unlike Tramadol, Tapentadol has a much shorter half-life of around 4-5 hours peak effect but it wears off.
Although can snort the ground up tablets for a faster onset, it's a lot of powder to snort, stings like a bitch and seems to have a shorter duration of effect, at least for me. Orally is the way to go with these bad boys else it can lead to compulsively re-dosing with snorting with diminishing returns and wastage of pills, plus the damage it does to your nasal passages. Not cool.
Without further ado, here's my experience of Tapentadol after a month on 50mg Tramadol+2mg Subutex and then a week of neither so my system was pretty baseline and tolerance reduced somewhat.
11:20am
Tapentadol arrives. Orange coloured 100mg tablets which can be split easily into 4 x 25mg doses, with the brand name Aspadol. Cheap Indian generics. I take a whole 100mg tablet on an empty stomach with coffee.
11:50
I'm now experiencing a definite onset. A warm glow feeling that starts in my hands and gradually builds.
12:30
I'm now experiencing peak effect which is a classic opioid bliss feeling but nothing like the euphoria I have experienced on real opioids like Morphine.
Nevertheless it's a thoroughly pleasant physical and mental feeling of well-being. I feel motivated, energised and ready to take on some of the tasks I'd been putting off due to chronic fatigue and depression I struggle with daily

The feeling of physical comfort and mood lift continues for several hours and gradually diminishes early evening but leaves me with a nice afterglow after a half-decent nights sleep I wake up still feeling energised and ready to get up.
The next day...
7:40am
Just for the sake of the curious I tried snorting 50mg of the tablet in two separate doses after scratching off the nasty Sunset Yellow painted skin on the pills. Damn it does indeed sting like a bitch and 25mg in two lines is hard on the nose. I do 25mg and within 15 minutes I feel the warmth onset in hands again. A feeling of being mentally uplifted with a motivated mood
and fully energised.
8:30am
After almost an hour I snort the other 25mg. It hardly does anything to enhance the positive effects with only a hint of mild euphoria.
Conclusion:
Tapentadol is like Tramadol 2.0 an improved version of a synthetic opioid med which has distinct anti-depressant and stimulant properties. Tapentadol leans more towards the opioid effects than the stimulant effect I always get from Tramadol. Tramadol has a very long half-life about 12+ hours for me whereas Tapentadol is about half that 6 hours tops. More like a painkiller than Tramadol with a mild buzz, stimulation and an instant anti-depressant mood lift. It's also not as addictive or abusable as traditional opioids like Codeine or Morphine. I can take it and function perfectly fine on it without feeling sleepy as it stimulates me but in a smooth way. Not really recreational at least not for me even at 300mg.
I should point out here that I'm taking 30mg of the anti-depressant Mirtazapine daily whilst taking Tramadol and Tapentadol. I take my Mirtazapine late evening so most of the Tapentadol is gone from my system.
