Prescription Esketamine

A year ago I was prescribed with Esketamine, I'm a recovered addict of opioids and stimulants (which were oxycodone and methlphenidate/amphetamine [not mixed together]).

After 2 years of being sober I tried any alternative to get back to my previous life without the help of any chemical substances, to graduate my electrical engineering degree and be a functioning human being that can recall the 3rd law of thermodynamics if awakened in the middle of the night. After trying support groups and of course SSRIs of all sorts, nothing helped. Then I was sent to Esketamine , and boy, I can surely say it changed my life. I used to be grumpy, mad all the time, dissatisfied with anything, and had no motivation. I started 28 mg twice a week, then went up to 56 twice a week and finally 84 mg a week, which was given in a hospital in the form of a nasal spray by the brand name Spravato. After a year of treatment it's time for me to taper off, and it feels sad. I don't know how I will cope with tough situations without knowing that I have an esketamine session next week where all my mood is alleviated. When I started, after every treatment my mind would connect very different ideas together and I have very strange ideas about physics and electricity. Plus I was very dizzy, and it took about 2 hours for the dizziness to wear off. Now after a year I don't even get dizzy and the effects last much shorter than they used to.

Esketamine helped me get back to university, get very good grades and changed my cognitive functioning for the better. But it is not some candy, it should be monitored by a healthcare staff member and used cautiously since it carries a risk of abuse. To me, after being addicted to downers like alcohol, benzos and opiates, esketamine didn't feel like a new addiction for some reason, which is strange. It felt just enough to make me happy (and I emphasize the word happy, not high), and I didn't feel like I need more of it.
