I've had previous experiences with weed, cocaine, ketamine, MDMA, nutmeg, nitrous oxide and alcohol. I've also inhaled butane once before but it was nothing compared to this.

Anyway, my parents left the house to go shopping so I was alone. I got bored pretty soon, and that's when I noticed the £1 coin I had in my pocket the whole day. I immediately started thinking about what I could spend it on. I didn't have any weed left, so I decided to spend it on the cheapest high I knew - lighter fuel. I went to the corner shop and bought a cheap lighter so I could inhale the gas and get high, then went home, rolled a cigarette for later and prepared the butane gas for inhalation.

I didn't have any balloons, so I had to use a disposable latex glove for inhaling the gas. I unscrewed the top part of the lighter (where the gas comes out) just enough so as not to let out any gas. I then put the flame-end of the lighter inside the glove and held it shut, making sure there was an airtight seal, and fully unscrewed the top part. (Butane lighter fluid is freezing cold when it comes out, so take care while doing this). Once there were just a few drops of fuel inside the lighter, I carefully removed the empty lighter without letting the gas out of the glove.

I lay down on my bed and started breathing from the gas-filled latex glove. I noticed nitrous-like effects start coming on after less than 2 seconds: I began to feel a tingly, numbing sensation coursing through my body, and everything I could hear appeared to be distorted (like my voice does when I speak into a fan). I then inhaled everything and held my breath. Before long I felt an additional slight warmth in my body, and then a stoned-like body high that got became extremely intense in seconds. I felt like my body was becoming flatter, my vision started getting grainy and blotches of my vision started becoming invisible. My body suddenly went as flat as a pancake and I saw a glowing red line cut across my field of vision.

This is where things got truly terrifying. I started experiencing some weird mental images that became more and more vivid, which then turned into closed-eye visuals and then truly bizarre full-on hallucinations. I was hyperventilating, trying my best to let oxygen into my lungs, but it was no use. I couldn't move, my heart was pounding, and I thought I was going to die. I was fading away from the world I live in and staying in this realm of dissociation for eternity.

Everything suddenly went dark, the hallucinations became so intense they completely took over my vision, and I felt a sudden huge impact, like falling from the sky and hitting the ground at terminal velocity. I don't remember much during this time, but I felt like I'd been transported to the deepest, darkest depths of my hallucinating mind. It felt like being in deep, murky water, illuminated by glowing yellow orbs of light. I'd forgotten how to speak or even think, that's how fucked up I was. It's like my brain stopped working altogether, and it was being showed a movie. I remember, at some point, seeing people like my family, my friends, my ex-girlfriend, the Queen of England and even my cat. Somehow it felt like we'd just had an entire conversation just by making eye contact. It was a state I could probably best describe as being a vegetable in a k-hole, in another k-hole, while half-awake and in pieces spread across the entire galaxy.

I don't know how long this went on for, but when the effects finally started fading I realised that I was face-down on the floor, with an splitting headache and feeling very sick. I probably hit my head on a piece of furniture too, because I had a cut on my forehead that wouldn't stop bleeding. My vision was still screwed up for the next few days, as it was still grainy and I could see artifacts covering up my vision. There's a reason why I very rarely inhale lighter fluid to get high. Not only did I nearly die, and probably destroy many brain cells, but the whole experience just made me question my entire existence.

I think I'll stick to weed for now.
