I hadn't smoked weed since high school, I was freshly discharged from the Marine Corps and finally moved out of my parents' house. I was working a full time, 12-hour-a-day job at a packing facility at the time, and had occasionally used adderall to make the work more bearable.

On one of my nights off, I was looking to meet up with a friend (we'll call him Andy) who offered to smoke me out. 'What the hell' I figured, it's been a while since I'd been able to chill and smoke a bowl. What I failed to take into account was that it'd been OVER two years since I'd smoked, I'd never smoked out of a bong, and I had no idea what the strain was, nor the potency of it.
I'd never smoked out of a bong, and I had no idea what the strain was, nor the potency of it.

So at around 6pm that night, I head to Andy's apartment, he's a regular drug user, nothing too harsh, mostly hallucinogens and weed. We sit down on his couch as he loads the bowl into his sort of impressive makeshift bong fashioned out of a glass bottle, and have some Blink-182 playing in the background. He takes one hit, passes it to me, I take a medium-sized hit, and immediately start coughing my lungs out. I'd forgotten what it felt like smoking anything other than tobacco. Another hit from him, I'd finally stopped coughing after about 2-3 minutes, and he passes it back to me. I reluctantly take another hit.

After my second hit I remember staring at the wall, then at Andy, then the wall, then at Andy. The next thing I knew, I was waking up on his living room floor. I sat up and saw Andy in his kitchen, making some microwave taquitos. I sat there, trying to piece together what was going on for what seemed like half an hour. I decided to lay back down on the floor, with my eyes closed. Big mistake.

I'd begun to lose my sense of direction, gravity, and momentum. While laying there with my eyes closed, I felt like the whole room was moving at an incredibly fast speed, as if it were a seat on a super fast Ferris wheel. This sensation was hurting my head so much, the only way to stop it was to open my eyes and lift my head, only to have it come on again once I put my head back down.

I'd started to see things. At one point I was laying on the living room floor, and all I could see was my own face. I was literally talking to myself. Having a conversation about anything from my girlfriend to how I like my job. This part of the experience lasted for what seemed like an eternity, and it was not pleasant.

After I'd calmed down a bit and was back on the couch, still not fully aware of my surroundings, Andy suggested I get some fresh air. I walk out his front door, taking in the scenery of the neighborhood, the slight breeze rustling the trees below the apartments' walkway. I sat down on the stairs leading up to the second level. My stomach was beginning to hurt. About 2 minutes later I vomited violently twice. After that I do remember feeling slightly better, and I was in more of a mildly stoned state.

All in all, it wasn't a very pleasant experience. That was about 6 months ago. I do now, however, smoke once or twice a week. I've bought a bong, and I even regularly use the same strain that I'd had at Andy's apartment (Sour Headband, by the way), and I haven't had a similar experience to that night.
