I came across Mirtazapine by accident a couple years ago, my dog (seriously) was prescribed this for an appetite stimulant since she didn't want to eat. I looked it up online since I was bored one day and discovered it was an antidepressant and also prescribed for insomnia. I have chronic insomnia and have been taking Zolpidem for 6 years (almost every night). The first time I tried Mirtazapine, I took 1/4 pill (3.5mg). I have never been so sleepy in my entire life, I slept for 9 hours and felt like I had a lead weight in my brain the entire next day. It wasn't a pleasant feeling, and I stayed away from it for a long time.

Last night I was bored, not tired and had run out of my monthly supply of Zolpidem. Remembering the dose I took last time and the effects it had on me, I decided to try an experiment. I used a pocket knife and shaved literally a few tiny specks of the pill off into my hand and licked it. Even with this super tiny, almost microscopic amount, about 15 minutes later I got this strange head rush and about 15 minutes after that I almost fell over I was so tired. I had to stagger into bed and had the most intense dreams, and woozy night of sleep of my life. I would never want to take this regularly, but if I'm desperate to sleep, this is a sure bet.
