Beauty At The Bluffs

This past weekend I finally had the time to experiment with the 25i-NBOMe I'd been holding on to for a while. Part of my aim was to judge the strength of the chemical that remained - I'd had these Felix The Cat tabs for about a year and a half, but somehow had not yet found the opportunity to use them. As you get older, responsibilities tend to increase, and free time lessens. I decided to take a Saturday trip out to a state park with 1.5L of water, some Kashi bars, and a couple tabs.

Arriving at approximately 11 AM, I parked my car and popped one tab into my lower gums and started towards the park's trails. I hiked through the woods, up and down hills, looked out at the beach, and 20 minutes in, dropped the other tab next to the first in my mouth. I'd been building up saliva steadily during the hike, being careful not to swallow, save a couple times when I greeted passing hikers out of reflex. Another 20 minutes or so and I'd reached the edge of the park, and looped around to hike along the beach for the journey back. So far, I'd not felt any effects. 25i's characteristic bitter taste has been in my mouth for quite some time though.

When I'd travelled about halfway the beach route back, I'd found that my surroundings seemed slightly more vibrant - the color of the rocks seemed bolder, and there was a bit of an extra sheen to the water. I'd estimate I was at [+] by this point, about an hour after using the first tab. The rocky beach remains easy to navigate, and I'm able to jump over and duck under fallen trees with no problem, yet a slope of slippery mud gives me a little trouble. Some hikers higher up seem concerned, but I give them a thumbs up while grinning like a fool.

I return to the grassy area of the park at about 80 minutes after my start, having hiked a distance I estimate as about 4 miles. There's an exhaustion - but it doesn't feel like one borne of hiking, but rather the impending body load. The slightest nausea arrives, a heaviness to my legs leads me to plop down on a bench, and I put my headphones on and begin my soundtrack. I'm listening to Emeralds' self-titled CD. Already, there's a euphoria slowly washing over me. Everything is vibrant. I'm paying close attention to the branch structure of leafless trees. The bright blue sky is scattered with cirrus uncinus clouds, and the contrast between them strikes me hard. Yet in spite of this, I don't see the patterns or fractals that so many other reports describe. Everything is extremely clear, grass remains grass. This is approximately [++].

I sit on that bench for close to 40 minutes basking in an incredible feeling of well-being. The music I'm listening to has an incredible effect on me. It's arousing, and I notice a similarity of the feeling of building to orgasm, but without the tumescence that obviously goes along with it most other times. I close my eyes and the emotional effect intensifies, rising and falling. There are no closed-eye visuals that I can notice. The sudden realization hits me that I cannot stop smiling, and I wonder if any passers-by notice. There's muscle tension in my neck as I quickly shift my field of view from side to side, and bruxism has been causing my jaw to clench.

The album I've been listening to has ended, so I begin another Emeralds live track and get up to move to another bench. I feel like I'm getting up slowly, and that I'm moving and walking in a very deliberate way. It feels conspicuous. I sit down, closer to the beach this time. It's after a couple minutes of sitting that I notice just how many ladybugs there are today. One will land on my clothes and I will pick it up, letting it crawl on my hand. It climbs up my fingers and I am able to focus closely on it, trying to identify its eyes, noticing the black 'W' shape at the edge of its red elytra. As it reaches the height of my fingertips, the elytra spreads and its wings flutter it away into the wind. I know it's obvious instinct for an insect to begin flight from a position of height, but for whatever reason I marvel at its act as if it were one of a sentient being. This happens several more times and I take great enjoyment from it. As a ladybug takes off from my fingers, I feel a heightened sense of awareness and am able to track it visually as it flies away, eyes remaining fixed on it for at least 30 feet.

The feeling I've been having has caused my perception of time to get slightly muddled past this point. It's at this time, approximately 140 minutes into my experience, that I believe I reach [+++], and start to see some visual distortions: grass appears to be effectively 'doubled'. Two blades for every one that exists, but there's no trails or afterimages when I shift my field of vision. Upon concentrating on a particular spot in the grass, that spot seems to be slightly sinking into the ground. I look up, and notice that a more solid cloud cover has moved in to the region. A sheet of white and gray is above me, and there are regular impressions, pockmarks in the sheet - it reminds me of a Sierpinski Carpet, as I notice smaller pockmarks inside the larger ones, and smaller ones inside those, and so on.

Every now and again, while I've been sitting, I've been jerking my head around to attempt to see what I think are people at the edge of my vision. Combined with the bruxism, my head and neck are starting to hurt quite a bit. It's at this point that I decided to leave the park, approximately 3 hours from when I arrived. A family of parkgoers passes by with two large dogs. They both bark at me, and I give the family a nervous smile. Dogs usually love me. I must be exuding some strange feeling to make both of them react like that. Whether or not I actually am, it makes me nervous and paranoid. I use the restroom and then climb into my car. The tabs have remained in my gums the entire time, and I spit them out into a trash bag.

There's no visual impairment that I feel would have prevented me from driving safely, but the ride home is still fraught with a mid-level nervousness, and I have to stop twice to calm my nerves. Getting home is easy otherwise; I'm still very aware of where I am compared to where I need to be, and no map consultation is necessary, despite taking a slightly different route home.

By the time I complete the 30 minute journey home, the bulk of the experience has ended. The euphoria has washed into a general feeling of wellness, and twenty minutes after I arrive home family drops by. I imagine myself out of sorts while talking to them, but they didn't seem to notice, or if they did, did not comment on my behavior. At about 4PM, 5 hours after the beginning of the experience, I attempt to replace a light socket, but can't seem to concentrate on the task - even consulting the instructions is an impossibility. By 5PM, however, all the effects seem to have dissipated. The only thing that remains is pain in my neck and jaw.

Despite that pain, which nearly completely left the following day, I consider the experience an unqualified success. This is definitely a compound I plan to experiment with again - hopefully with another person. There's a huge amount of potential in this substance.
